Last year Slovenia, a pocket-sized green country nestled in the heart of Europe, was declared the world\u2019s most sustainable country by the Netherlands-based organisation Green Destinations. This year, the Slovenian Tourist Board competed in the category Destination Leadership, which assessed environmental best practices, protection for cultural and natural heritage, benefits to local people, and the education of travelers on the principles of sustainable tourism. By embracing and reflecting the national goal to be one of the world\u2019s most sustainable countries, it has been made tiny Slovenia a major force in green tourism worldwide. This has been acknowledged also by the initiative of the National Geographic Society, which presented the Slovenian Tourist Board with the World Legacy Award 2017 in the category of the destination leadership.<\/p>\n
