Tour type: Self-drive with electric car

Starting: Rovaniemi airport – Ending: Rovaniemi airport

Upon arrival to the airport, you will take over the electric car, which will be your emission free transportation for the following week. The car company representative will be waiting for you and explain all details regarding the car. You can download an app with all locations of charging stations, which are in every city. You will be provided with all necessary cards for these stations and will be charged accordingly to the usage upon returning the car. The car also includes plugs and cables for charging at stations or even at a regular electric socket.

However, most of hotels included in the itinerary offer their own charging stations, so you will easily park and charge the car in front of your accommodation.

The electrical charging is free or at least significantly cheaper than the price of regular fuel. Also, upon returning you don’t need to return full battery as with the standard cars.

The 5-days tour will take you through the land of one of the most famous people in the world – Santa Clause. You will enjoy driving through the picturesque landscapes, visit Santa’s village and his home. Get ready for exciting activities and good food.

Itinerary

Day 1: Rovaniemi airport – Rovaniemi (9km, 11min)

Upon arrival at Rovaniemi airport pick up your rental car and drive to Rovaniemi city. Check in at the hotel and have the rest of the day to relax.

Arctic Circle Rovaniemi is the capital of Lapland situated right on the Arctic Circle, which makes the town a gateway to the Arctic. There are many reasons to love Rovaniemi – spellbinding nature and phenomena, Lappish traditions and culture, urban life and wild activities make the Official Hometown of Santa Claus a unique place to visit.

Day 2: Rovaniemi – Ranua (80km, 1h) – Rovaniemi (80km, 1h 40min)

After breakfast departure from the hotel and head to Ranua Zoo. Ranua Wildlife Park has taken in endangered species and animals that need extra care-taking. You can see the only polar bears living in Finland, as well as, 50 other arctic and northern animal species, all in all 200 individuals, at the Ranua Wildlife Park. The animals live in spacious fencings in the midst of northern forest, in as authentic natural environment as possible.

You can enjoy buffet lunch in the Zoo restaurant and after head back toward Rovaniemi. This afternoon you will visit Santa Clause village, cross the arctic circle and get the certificate to prove it. For a very special experience we can arrange private audience with Santa Clause – how cool is that?

Day 3: Rovaniemi

Spend the day taking part in different activities in Rovanimi or in its vicinity. There are so many options, here ate just few suggestions: hiking, visiting a reindeer or husky farm or learn about northern nature, culture, and the history in the Arktikum museum.

In the evening we have a special treat for you. You can’t leave Lapland without experiencing Mindnight sun in it’s whole glory. You will enjoy the evening sunlight in a peaceful forest outside of the city and its noises. We’ll take you from the city to reach a wilderness lakeside where the sun does not set. Float away in the middle of an arctic lake glazing in the sky, listening to the birds singing and experiencing nature. Dressed up in floating suits you will stay warm and dry when entering the lake. Our guide prepares hot drinks by an open fire.

Day 4: Rovaniemi – Luosto (120km, 1.5h) – Rovaniemi (120km, 1.5h)

Today will be the gem of the week! We promise! After breakfast head toward Luosto to visit an Amethyst mine. During the guided tour you will hear fascinating stories about the geology and history of Lampivaara and learn about the beautiful amethyst. The tour includes digging your own lucky stone to keep and you will visit a small shop where you can buy amethyst souvenirs.

Walk from the parking lot to Lampivaara café is 2,5 km. Please notice that the mining area is not easy for disabled.

After the visit stop at the Luostotunturi hotel for lunch and to charge your car.

Return to Rovaniemi for an overnight stay.
