Best alternative Christmas markets

We’re so much into off-the-beaten track this year, that we actually dared to propose alternatives to our traditional Christmas markets destinations. So, here it is: the list of the less-known Christmas markets. Step out of the box and be different also at Christmas time! Find our 2017 selection here.

AN ALTERNATIVE TO VIENNA CHRISTMAS MARKET:
Instead of visiting one of the Christmas markets in Vienna, opt for Kitzbühel, a popular ski resort town and combine discovering Christmas markets with adventure on the ski slopes.

AN ALTERNATIVE TO PRAGUE CHRISTMAS MARKET:

Český Krumlov, snuggled in a bend of the Vltava River, is famous for its Castle and chateau complex and since recently also for its Christmas market, which is adorned with the live nativity scene.

THERE’S NO ALTERNATIVE TO OUR PROPOSAL for GERMANY LAST YEAR: ROTHENBURG is a MUST-VISIT!

It’s just so conveniently small and centuries old that we decided to keep Rothenburg on the list also this year. It’s a fairy tale come true and at the same time also the place, where you can find the Käthe Wohlfahrt’s Christmas Village with the largest selection of German Christmas decoration in the world, open all-year-round.

AN ALTERNATIVE TO LJUBLJANA CHRISTMAS MARKET

It’s not really an alternative, consider it more of an add-on: visit one of the numerous performances of the living nativity scenes at Postojna Cave, which is conveniently located, less than an hour drive from Ljubljana.

AN ALTERNATIVE TO ZAGREB CHRISTMAS MARKET:
Haha! Good one! Did you really think that we are going to replace Zagreb? Zagreb was voted the best Christmas market in Europe by European Best Destinations’ online poll last year… So it makes total sense to keep in on the list, right?
